Abstract submission is open for the 22nd International Sedimentological Congress, Wellington, 25 - 30 January 2026.

The deadline for abstracts to be received is 16th May 2025.

Field Trips

Pre- and post-conference fieldtrips cover virtually all the aspects of sedimentology, with trips to both the north and south islands available.  The trips proposed have been selected to showcase a wide a range of sedimentary systems and process.  CLICK HERE to view the proposed trips.  There will also be mid-conference field trips on Wednesday 28 January, with details to follow soon.


Please note:
•    You will be able to initially give an expression of interest to attend a field trip during the registration process.
•    You will be contacted to confirm your booking and make payment around August/September 2025.
•    Field trips will be on a first-come, first-served basis. 
•    The organising committee reserves the right to cancel a trip at any time, offering a full refund (of the field trip fee) or offering participants the opportunity to change to another trip.

 

Keynotes

We have secured 4 excellent keynote speakers who will showcase their amazing research into the interactions between sedimentology and:

  1. Active margin tectonics (Jamie Howarth, Victoria University of Wellington, Aotearoa-New Zealand);
  2. Indigenous knowledge (Daniel Hikuroa, University of Auckland, Aotearoa-New Zealand);
  3. Paleoclimate and paleoceanography (Helen Bostock, University of Queensland, Australia) , and
  4. Volcaniclastic processes (Kyoko Kataoka, Niigata University, Japan).

We will invite 4 more keynote speakers once we have confirmed the accepted abstracts.

2-for-1 Conferences

The 11th IAG International Conference on Geomorphology is being held from 2-6th February in Christchurch, New Zealand, with a joint IAS-IAG field trip between.
